THE LIEUTENANT OF INISHMORE – A REHEARSED READING

BY MARTIN MCDONAGH

WEDNESDAY 29 MARCH

The Lieutenant of Inishmore webA rehearsed reading for NT Ed followed by a Q&A with the director and cast.

“Mad Padraic” cares about one thing, and one thing only, and – despite his title as the lieutenant of Inishmore’s Irish National Liberation Army – it’s not the fight for Irish independence. It’s his cat.

When Padraic learns that ‘Wee Thomas’ has been killed, he rushes home to the island of Inishmore, much to the relief of the Belfast drug-pusher whose nipples he was about to remove.

As Padraic pursues revenge, bodies pile up in his wake. However, fierce though he may be, Padriac’s soft spot for ‘Wee Thomas’ is the Achilles’ heel his enemies are targeting.

This brazen and unapologetic farce combines comedy and violence in a dark and bloody portrait of internecine rivalries among terrorists for whom killing, torturing and bombing are just jobs.
